Wouldn´t it be awesome if Stan Lee picked up Mexican wrestlers and turned them into superheroes? Or what if Marvel and DC heroes were luchadores in Mexico?
What would that be like?
Don´t hurt your pretty little head trying to picture this concept. We´ve got you covered.
EL SUPER HOMBRE
Instead of arriving at Earth from Krypton, El Super Hombre was born in Tijuana. He decided to become a luchador when his pet donkey Lucho went missing.
Coincidentally, his parents started making a lot of money right around the same time. El Super Hombre will not rest until he finds Lucho, or until somebody pays.
EL HOMBRE ARAÑA
His uncle Benito Juarez was shot and killed by a local cartel force. Now, El Hombre Araña is determined to stop any crime in his city, but first, he must defeat his opponents in the ring.
Fighting crime is especially tough when the bad guy is your mejor amigo and the girl you love constantly finds herself in danger. El Hombre Araña is hoping he can turn his best friend back to the good side and that his girlfriend would stop nagging at him for working too much.
EL HOMBRE DE HIERRO
Antonio Estark is a philanthropist in his humble town by day and a professional wrestler by night. Despite the mask, he´s the only luchador who´s true identity is known by all.
Perhaps it´s his ego or his ambition for fame, but El Hombre De Hierro loves to walk the streets and bask in the glory of the people´s praise. Don´t worry though, he truly means well in the end.
EL HULK
Being vertically challenged – for lack of a politically correct term – is not easy for El Hulk. The bright side is that when he gets mad, all he must do is put his mask on to become six foot four.
He doesn´t like what he becomes at that height, but it´s necessary to defeat the bad guys in the ring. Otherwise, he would just be an antisocial mad scientist angry at the world for no apparent reason other than being different than most people.
EL CAPITAN AMERICA
This wrestler is a deported veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He is now dedicated to fighting border patrol agents who try to stop immigrants from seeking a better life in America.
Sure, he´s let himself go a bit over the past few years, but his heart and spirit remain in the best shape of his life. By the way, his Spanglish is on point!
THE SAINT
Hulk Hogan ain´t got s*%t on The Saint. This superhero luchador fights mummies without the need of weapons or powers.
All he needs to do is wrestle them back to where they came from. The dead.
AGUAYO DOG
The moment his son was killed in the ring, Aguayo Dog experienced something, unlike anything anyone´s ever seen before. So much pain and anger mutated Aguayo Dog into a red monster looking to avenge his son´s death.
He hasn´t been seen since the incident occurred, but many stories tell of how the red curse won´t end until he gets revenge. There are different versions of the incident, but one says that he´s looking endlessly for a one-time family friend and alleged perpetrator, Rey Mysterio.
KALIMAN
The Pharao´s blood runs through his veins, but he didn´t know it for a very long time. He was thrown into a river as a baby by a Prime Minister who didn´t want him to be the heir to the throne.
Once an adult and after a strict training regimen in Tibet, he learned about his past and sought revenge. Alongside his sidekick, Solin, Kaliman will take over the empire that rightfully belongs to him
BLUE DEMON
Raised by the devil, Blue Demon went through hell to escape the wrath of Satan. Evil was not his vision like it was for his adoptive dad.
Once he broke through the gates of hell, Blue Demon rose from the underground. Now he fights demons that he´s known his entire life.
RED CRICKET
He´s not the brightest or most effective, but when nobody else is there to help, you can count on his cunning timing and his huge heart. Red Cricket is not afraid to admit that he´s afraid.
Still, he rarely backs down from a fight, using his trusty gavel to knock out his opponents. You´d be better off with Mary Poppins coming to the rescue, but at least Red Cricket will make you laugh like no other.
This idea is far-fetched and most likely will never be implemented. However, there is something currently happening that is merging both cultures.
Red Locust is a new female superhero by Marvel that was inspired by Red Cricket, El Chapulin Colorado in Spanish. She can control insects and has a 200-year-old armor that was passed down from generation to generation in the Locust Brotherhood.
Her name is Fernanda Ramirez in honor of Spain´s King and is notably young, and inexperienced. The Locust Brotherhood is known for protecting Mexican tribes and tourists, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out with the current political climate.
