A nail-biting clash between bitter rivals Mexico and Bruce Arena´s USMNT quickly approaches. But first, El Tri must beat Honduras today, right after the Yanks size up Trinidad and Tobago.
It may seem like the match between Arena´s squad and the Soca Warriors, is in the bag for the Americans, but please do hold your horses. This match is a must see for all soccer aficionados but primarily for Mexicans, and here´s why.
1. To see Clint Dempsey make history.
Okay, Mexicans might not care about Dempsey making history with the U.S., but just imagine the joy when Landon Donovan is no longer the top scorer for his country. He deserves that and more for peeing at the Azteca.
2. To pick the new Saint Zusi.
Graham Zusi hasn´t been as prominent in the United States under Bruce Arena, so Mexicans will need to scout for a new savior. It´s not to say that you should root for a rival, but a “break glass in case of emergency” option is not a bad idea at all.
3. To see old man Howard scream his beard off.
Unfortunately for Tim, any hardcore fan of El Tri still to this day celebrates the amazing goal Gio Dos Santos scored on him in the 2011 Gold Cup Final. Sure, the goal was impressive, but it brings more pleasure seeing the replay of Howard going insane after.
4. To witness an upset!
Mexico just played Trinidad and Tobago recently and couldn´t do much against them. Diego Reyes scored the only goal of the match, so an upset against the United States is not a far-fetched thought for the Islanders.
5. To pre-game ahead of the Mexico vs Honduras match.
El Tri plays right after the USMNT bout finishes, and it´s the perfect pre-game activity while you wait for the big party to start. There´s no better excuse for an early drink than studying your rival before facing them three days later.
LET´S FORGET KLINSMANN AND SEE BRUCE FAIL
Bruce Arena has to prove that his experience with the United States and the league itself will catapult his team to greatness. Klinsmann left huge shoes to fill despite the sudden exit from the team, so an epic fail during the game for ól Bruce would be great to behold for any Mexican.
In all seriousness, though, the game between El Tri and the Americans on the 11th will be vital for securing the first place in the World Cup qualifiers. Any Mexican interested in seeing their team succeed should know the rival from head to toe.
